Gratitude part 8

In primary today the theme was service. As I sat and listened to the children give their ideas about how they can serve their families I realized that my children serve their family members all the time and they usually do it with a cheerful attitude.

I am grateful that my children enjoy serving. I am grateful Nutmeg "takes care" of me when I am sick, that Commander C keeps an eye on his little siblings and that Boba Fett always seems to know when I need a hug or a laugh.

Gratitude part 7

I am SO grateful that today was the last day of soccer season. I am also grateful that this season has not been as grueling as other years despite the fact that we has 2 kids on different teams playing on different days. I am glad that I have healthy kids that can play soccer. I am grateful that Moose had to be a coach this year!

Notice: Career Change

Boba Fett, who used to want to grow up to be a Dragon but then decided he wanted to grow up to work at Wendy's has decided on a new career track. Boba Fett would now like to grow up to work at the Oregon Zoo. He would like to feed the animals. Please make a note in your files of this change.
P.S. Boba Fett does not yet know that aquariums exist - once he does he might change his mind to the ever romantic occupation of "Marine Biologist."

Nutmeg Fears The Jolly Old Elf

Well Boba Fett is afraid of Obama and Nutmeg is afraid of Santa Claus.
That's right, she is terrified that he is going to come through her window. She asks each night in a worried voice if Santa is coming tonight as she clings to me. I was just dancing and singing to the Jackson 5's Santa Claus is Coming to Town and she came up to me and said "Mom our home is not a town, right?"
Yesterday we rounded a corner at the Pittock Mansion ans ran into a Santa and I was afraid of an incident but I think she knew he wasn't the real thing, his beard was pretty short, and he was awfully skinny.

What should we do? Spill the beans? She isn't quite 3 years old yet, that seems harsh, I never remember believing in Santa and I don't feel deprived of anything?
Personally I don't do anything to promote Santa but I don't disillusion anyone anyhow. Besides Santa came in very handy the year Commander C had a problem with stealing and he got a note from Santa and no Bionicle.

Odds and Ends

Today I lay on the couch attempting to rest listening to Looney Tunes which had been left playing on the TV. Boba Fett and Nutmeg were trying to coax their dad out of bed. I watched as they ran, then crawled, then crept and skipped in and out of the bedroom which is at the top of the stairs from the hallway on the other side of the stairs. First Boba Fett and then Nutmeg in the same manner. It was so funny, it was just like in cartoons when characters chase each other back and forth across the screen in and out of doors, and don't forget Looney Tunes was playing on the TV so I had the soundtrack. All I needed was to add the foot step sound effects "do-do-do-do-do." Moose later informed me that Boba Fett was trying to sneak up on him but it was pretty tough since Moose was lying in bed looking at the door.
Commander C the Rock Star

We tease around here. This evening as Boba Fett was deciding wether or not to partake of the salad he aked what salad was made of. Moose replied "Just lettuce..and monkey brains." Before Boba Fett could insert his enlarged eyes and open mouth expression Commander C piped in without missing a beat and in the perfect tone "Yeah, that's the purple stuff."(red oak leaf lettuce) It was flawless. Moose and I looked at one another and said "He has learned well."

I stayed home from church today since I was sick. I was feeling like I should use the quiet Sunday time to do something with Nutmeg who rarely gets my undivided attention. So I offered to play with the Blythe dolls with her. She eagerly agreed and we had a great time "playing dolls." Betsy gave Janie and Greta goodbye and hello kisses as she went to school. I can't wait until we get her doll house made.

Boba Fett Fears Obama

A couple of months ago the boys and some friends were playing upstairs. Somehow the topic of conversation turned serious because Boba Fett came downstairs crying with a look of terror in his eyes.
"Mom," he sobbed " if Obama becomes president it will be a really bad country." and he looked at me with the "Mom, please tell me it isn't true." look.

What could I say? I WANTED to tell him it wasn't true but I also have a policy of not lying to my children.

The tears kept coming as he told me he was afraid of Obama. I could honestly tell him that I didn't think he was a bad man, and he wasn't mean, that his policies were just woefully misguided and completely unprovided for in the constitution and against the values our country was founded on.

"But Mom, I just don't want him to come here to Oregon!" more tears. Have I mentioned that Boba Fett's tears are freakishly large and his glasses magnify his eyes and when whose thick dark lashes are wet it is almost unbearable?
"Well, Honey, He's already been here to Oregon."
"What?!?!?!" complete meltdown.

Later, sitting down at the table nursing a snack and beverage he told me "Mom, I just don't want there to be bad countries." Oh, children! Out of the mouths of babes! The wish of people all over the world for millenia. How can I tell him?

"There are bad countries honey. The people in them aren't all bad but sometimes the countries do bad things. That is why we need to make sure our country doesn't become one. That is why you need to work so hard to find your mission and do what Heavenly Father has planned for you to do. So you can change the world and be a leader, and fight for good."

God bless America.
Proclaim Liberty throughout the land.
(I just received a box of 200 copies of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence from the Heritage Foundation. I am giving them to everyone I meet.)

Does the Internet Have Everything?

The joy of a 4 year old. The architect of these secure instutions (banks with tellers,) Boba Fett is a thinker, he has big thoughts inside that little head of his and I am sure only a fraction is spoken which is frightening since he talks all day long. That is part of the reason that I know he has a special work to do on the earth, his spirit is strong and he studies thing in his mind. He is sensitive to things in a good way not a crying all the time sort of way.

He is really into the resurrection. When he learns that someone or thing has died he points out that they will be resurrected. It is almost scary because one day I was telling Nutmeg about running in the parking lot and how she could be killed and Boba Fett pointed out that she would be resurrected! Tonight at dinner (salmon) he asked if fish will be resurrected. I told him that I didn't know about fish and I told him the things I do know about the resurrection and suggested he pray about it because I don't know and honestly I am not that concerned about the eternal nature of the souls of fish.

There was also the hurricane fiasco when the guy on the news said "Gulf Coast" and the kids heard "golf course" and Grandma and Grandpa live on the golf course...

Here are some of the other exciting questions we have been asked of late:
What if there were no trees?
What if there were no grass?
What if there were no dirt?
Why do spiders have eight legs?
Why are guns called guns?
How old is your mom?
Why is Grandma so nice?
Can tornadoes be over the ocean?
What do you do during a tornado and what if you don't have a basement?
Have you ever been to the North Pole?

So you see I need to be philosopher, scriptorian, ecologist, entomologist and etymologist to keep up with this kid.

Thank goodness for the "Internets." Thank you Al Gore!

In other news...Nutmeg my little adorable girl who looks just like a china doll was cleaned, pressed, dressed and sent out the door for church this morning. When I made it out the door she was throwing black dirt high into the air so it could shower down into her white blonde hair. Her mission in life is to knock people over like a linebacker.
